The What Ifs

From going through much change this year and a lot of unexpected plot twists, I've often sat and pondered even to the most recent plot twists of my life wondering the what if's.

What if I had (fill in the blank)?

I think we all ask this question from time to time whether we made the right or wrong choice on so many matters of the heart. But in our dizzying overthinking or our many questions, have we ever just sat down and chose to rest in the promises of scripture?

Let's start here with this scripture.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30

These are the words of Jesus and they are beautiful. We can come to him and we can find rest for our souls. Every burden or dizzying what if, we can bring to Jesus in prayer. He wants to help us in our day to day with however heavy our loads may be.

I don't pretend for this to be an easy thing especially if you are anything like me, stubborn, strong-willed and feel like you have to take on the whole world by yourself. But Jesus still asks us to come to Him with our burdens and all our struggles to find rest.

As 2022 ended I faced an unexpected plot twist that caused me to have a million and one questions of what if to the point of frustration. The Lord graciously brought me to the end of myself in my frustration  while also making me realize my need to pray and to leave it in His hands because of who He is.

God is faithful (Num. 23:19, 2 Tim. 2:13, 1 Peter 4:19)

God is good and knows best.(Matt. 6:25-33,Rom 8:28-31)

God is all-knowing. (Matt. 10:29-30, Heb. 4:13)

It's realizing that the Lord wants us to come to Him. With our emotions, with our frustrations and with all our what if's.

As I was finishing writing this post, I came across this song that I have not heard for well the last eight years, Come As You Are by Crowder.  The lyrics point to a single message, to come to Christ as you are in whatever you face.
