Finding Contentment and Peace
There are things in my life I wish I had all the answers to. Yet, I don't. The Lord has been teaching me to be content without gaining full clarity of everything in my life. This is challenging for me. I like to have clarity and answers to have the full picture of how and why things happened. I'm a perfectionist so I like knowing and having all the details in order. So you can imagine the struggle I've been having.
How is God teaching me contentment?
1. He has shown me His faithfulness to his word and promises.
The bible holds so many great promises that God is continually faithful to.
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers."
Romans 8:28-29 ESV
This promise is focused on sanctification. I know I just busted a bunch of theological bubbles, but that's okay. Everything that happens in our lives is for our good so that those who God foreknew would be confirmed to the image of Christ. This promise has grounded me and has helped me stay encouraged to trust in the Lord. I know whatever circumstance, it's for my good to be conformed to the image of Christ. I may not have all the answers I want, but I can trust my heavenly Father, who is working all things for my good to be more like Christ.
2. Paul's example in Philippians 4:4-13
I will not copy it into the blog post, but I strongly encourage you to look it up. The apostle Paul went through the wringer with so many different situations. Yet, he knew contentment. He was able to rejoice and be gracious because Paul knew the Lord was ever-present. Having a mindset of praise or worshipfulness is key to being content. We can be thankful for the things God has already done and the things he will continue to do as we follow him.
With what I just wrote, I am still in the midst of learning it. Finding true peace and contentment can only be found in Christ alone. In my personal situation, even though I lack the answers, I desire I can still find peace in knowing whatever answers I lack or questions I have of people I can have peace knowing God is working to shape me and grow me to be conformed to the image of Christ for my good.
