Trusting the Shepherd
It's been a long time since I last wrote a blog post. I wish I could be more consistent in what I write and when I write. Life gets a bit crazy and life changes in many more ways than what we expect. But Jesus Christ is the same always and forever.
I would like ask a simple question. Who is Jesus Christ to you? Well some people might say he was just a good teacher, a prophet or a lunatic. (McDowell) To me Jesus is my hope, my joy, my savior, my king, my Lord, and the restorer of my soul.
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake."
Psalm 23:1-3
The common theme of my life has been brokenness, but in the brokenness of my life Jesus has restored and redeemed me. He has been my shepherd. The one who has redeemed me, restored and has lead me all the way. Through the mountains and valleys, he has been my constant. So why Psalm 23:1-3? A few weeks ago, I listened to a podcast message from Nancy DeMoss Woglemuth on Psalm 23. It impacted my heart to share with you all.
Jesus is our shepherd, he is my shepherd. He has and is restoring my soul and is teaching me day by day to simply trust him. It has been a messy process for me to just come to a point of simply trusting and to lean into His arms. As I've looked at this Psalm multiple times, I have drawn so many different truths about who the Lord is and seeing how I should trust Him.
The Lord restores my soul, so I can trust him. When we are broken, we misconstrue and mistake people and things as a means of restoration. I have done this in my life not just once, but a few times. I made idols out of things and people who could not heal my broken heart. I'm thankful for the Savior who restores my soul. Jesus has healed me and sealed up the broken pieces of my heart. In humbleness and brokenness, I have learned and am still learning to simply trust guiding hand of the shepherd.
When we look back and see His past faithfulness, even amidst the pandemic. God will be faithful as he has been faithful in the past. As Christ is the shepherd, he will be faithful as he has been faithful to provide and meet needs of the sheep of his pasture.
