In The Details

I tend to be somewhat of a detailed person. If I am telling a story or even writing like right now, it has a lot of detail to it. As I have matured and aged, details have taken a more substantial part of who I am as a person. I don't think being detailed is terrible; however, it is easy to lose sight of the bigger picture and understanding God's plan. On the other hand, details are just what God uses to bring forth his sovereign and providential plan.

As I look back on my life and the plans I made for myself, they are nothing compared to how God providentially lead me to where I am now. From my parent's divorce to moving to South Carolina to going to seminary, it was all apart of God's providential plan. Even though I can look back at God's faithfulness in my life, I still struggle with doubt, with questions, and wonder.  I know many people are filled with the same questions and doubts about the current events in our history.
In my own life, it sometimes amazes me what the Father uses to redirect me to Himself and what He uses to remind me He is in control. So outside of COVID-19, recently, an EF2 tornado touched the city where I live. I'll admit I was a bit frightened, and my response may not have been the best in regards to seeking the Father in prayer, but I'm thankful for the person that was able to encourage me at the time. Amid the storm, I didn't know where the path of the tornado was headed, but even in my fear, the Lord proved faithful as the tornado was a little over a mile away from where I live.

I'm thankful for the tornado because it began to unfold an unpleasant area of sin in my life that I didn't recognize until it hit me square in the face. The Lord began to use various people and circumstances in my life to point to specific sins rooting from my fear. As someone who tries to be detailed and often tries to plan my life out, my plans get destroyed, but the plan of God always prevails. Whether it be the raging storm or the coronavirus pandemic, it always has been apart of the story.

What we have written in pencil, the Lord has it written in ink.
